Nestled atop the scenic Peruvanthanam hillock at the gateway to Kerala’s high ranges, St. Antony’s College, Peruvanthanam was founded with a noble vision, to extend the light of education to the youth of the high-range regions of Idukki, and Kottayam districts. The college stands today as a living testimony to the dream and dedication of its founder, Rev. Dr. Antony Nirappel, a visionary priest, an educationist par excellence, and a guiding light to generations of students.

A man of rare foresight and compassion, Rev. Dr. Antony Nirappel believed that true social transformation begins with education. He devoted over five decades of his life to building institutions that empower communities and nurture moral, intellectual, and social excellence. Guided by this philosophy, he founded St. Antony’s College to provide value-based, affordable, and modern higher education to the youth of the high ranges — a region once deprived of such opportunities.

The college was formally established in 2013, affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, and approved by the Government of Kerala. From its inception, it has embraced innovation, inclusivity, and excellence as its guiding principles, striving to mould intellectually enlightened, morally upright, socially responsible, and spiritually grounded citizens.

A Legacy of Vision and Commitment

Under the benevolent guidance of Rev. Dr. Antony Nirappel, who dedicated over 55 years of his life to the field of education, St. Antony’s College continues to uphold his legacy of excellence, humility, and service. He was not only the founder of this college but also the visionary behind several renowned educational institutions in Kottayam and Idukki.

His leadership extended beyond academics, as the Founder Secretary of the Nilackal Ecumenical Trust, he made remarkable contributions to ecumenism, national integration, and communal harmony. To honour his enduring service to education and humanity, the college proudly confers the Rev. Dr. Nirappel Awards for Best School, Best Principal and  Best Teacher continuing his mission to celebrate and inspire excellence.
